Chiropractic

Chiropractic was developed in 1895 by D.D. Palmer. Chiropractic philosophy sbegins with the principle that the body has an innate intelligence to maintain its own health.

Chiropractors focus on the central nervous system, which is comprised of the brain and spinal cord. The brain sends messages through the spinal cord across the spinal nerves to deliver information to every cell, organ and system of the body.

Physical, emotional and nutritional stresses can cause shifting of the spinal bones, called subluxations. Chiropractic adjustments remove subluxations and nerve interference to the spinal cord and help to increase energy flow to the body, as well as increase range of motion in the joints.

Spinal misalignments can lead to headaches, pain, pinched nerves, tingling and numbness and decreased range of motion.

The chiropractic approach to health care is holistic, focusing on the patient's overall well being. It recognizes that many lifestyle factors affect health and focuses on treating the root cause of the problem, rather than treating the symptoms. Chiropractors use natural, drugless, non-surgical health care and rely on the body's innate healing abilities.

Doctors of Chiropractic candidates must complete extensive undergraduate prerequisites and four years of graduate-level instruction and internship at an accredited chiropractic institution. Comprehensive knowledge of all systems of the body and diagnostic procedures enable the Doctor of Chiropractic to thoroughly evaluate a patient, address disorders relating to the spine and determine the need for referral to another health care provider.
