Before your visit, download the appropriate forms from the list below and print them. Read them, fill them out completely, and bring them to your first appointment. If you arrive without your completed forms, your appointment will be rescheduled. The initial consultation is 60-90 minutes long and after reviewing your history and discussing your current health concerns, you will be given test kits to complete in the privacy of your own home.
Your initial chiropractic visit will consist of a history, physical exam, and chiropractic adjustment. Your history will be reviewed, including all physical illnesses and traumas, as well as your current lifestyle factors in order to assess your condition and estimate your treatment plan length. On some occasions, you will be referred out for x-rays before your first adjustment. You will be educated about what chiropractic is, and how chiropractic can help you.
Chiropractic Phases of Care
1. Symptom Relief Phase: Symptom relief is a very important part of the chiropractic process since the reason you are here is because you are in pain! Symptom relief focuses on removing subluxations (bones that are out of alignment) and relaxing the muscles surrounding the subluxations. Massage therapy and stretching are usually recommended during this phase. Symptom relief is usually accomplished in 5-8 visits, depending on how long the condition has existed. The frequency of adjustments is usually 2-3 times per weeks.
2. Re-Structuring Phase: This phase of care focuses on training the body to "hold" the adjustment. The frequency of adjustments decreases to 1-2 times per week and there is still a big focus on the soft tissue structures. The length of treatment depends on the body's response to the adjustment and the patient's compliance to the treatment plan. Massage therapy and continued stretching is recommended.
3. Maintenance Phase: The maintenance phase of the treatment process is recommended for all clients. Maintenance adjustments are given every three weeks and are considered preventative medicine. Maintenance adjustments allow the body to maintain a continued state of alignment and helps to prevent overuse injuries and acute flare-ups.
